Erasmus+ OptimTex: Software tools for textile creatives

Researchers of the Department of Materials and Technologies at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering successfully completed all planned activities of the project OptimTex: Software application for textile design, which was carried out within the Erasmus+ programme. The project was focused on increasing the knowledge and skills of university students in the field of software applications for the textile industry and increasing their employability in textile companies. During the project, 6 educational e-learning modules were created in the following areas:

  • Design and modelling of woven structures
  • Design and modelling of knitted structures
  • Design and modelling of garments by 3D scanning software and CAD/PDS software
  • Design and modelling of embroidered structures
  • Software for research experimental design
  • Guide regarding technology transfer of textile software solutions into the industry

All the educational materials developed for each module, including test questions and a glossary of terms, are available in the Moodle environment on the Optimtex e-learning portal. Further details can be found on the project website: www.optimtex.eu

Six workshops were also organised with industrial partners from the textile manufacturing sector, and many other dissemination activities took place at national and international conferences.

Master and PhD students from each of the participating universities (University of Ghent, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, University of Maribor, Gheorghe Asachi University in Iasi) attended three one-week intensive study programmes (ISP), namely:

  • Gheorghe Asachi University in Romania (March 202)
  • University of Maribor, Slovenia (June 2022)
  • University of Ghent, Belgium (October 2022)
